Fashion Shoot with Silk and Cyanide

A few weeks ago, I had a really successful photo shoot for the clothing line Silk & Cyanide: A modern take on vintage style. Owner Kristen Elmer organized and styled the shoot, set up the backdrop, and of course, made the clothes. Models Julie Max (blonde) and Molly Randall (brunette) were awesome, and fabulous hair and make-up by Katherine Clay! The day went really well and here are some of the amazing shots I was able to capture.

Benjamin Von Wong Does Europe

I first came across Benjamin Von Wong's work when I featured a post about him on My Modern Met. Since then, I have become a huge fan of his work! The Montreal-based photographer creates the most mind-blowing images. Running with Flames is unreal, and since then I have discovered his affinity for all things dramatic. Rock on! My interest in dance photography also led me to his striking collection of a variety of ballet dancers and contortionists. Here are just a few of his photographs and definitely check out tons more of his work on his website.

As a fellow artist and photographer, I wanted to support his upcoming summer adventures into the unknown: Von Wong Does Europe. He describes the project as, "An international collaboration that will combine both the surreal vision of Von Wong with a variety of artists across Europe to create a series of inspirational and visually stunning photo and video portraits."Sounds like an excellent way to spend the summer!! I cannot wait to see the images as he treks across Europe to create even more of these incredibly passionate and impressive projects.

A Different Kind of Portrait

I just had a really successful photo shoot with Silk & Cyanide for some of their upcoming products and—once I sort through them all—I'm excited to share those photos with you! In the meantime, here is a collection where I have captured people portrayed in various ways without focusing on their faces. From in-studio to more natural environments, it's amazing how different emotions can emanate from such simple gestures.

Inside the Beltway

I was born and raised in the Washington, DC metro area. I grew up in Silver Spring, went to Georgetown University, and lived in Arlington, Virginia. Only about a year and a half ago did I decide to pick up and move to New York City. I love living in NYC but today I'm feeling a bit homesick. Especially since the famous spring cherry blossoms that surround the DC monuments are just weeks from peak bloom and they are spectacular! I think this calls for a visit to my favorite city and my hometown. I (heart) DC.

Springtime for Katie

After many cold and rainy days here in NYC, it's time for spring dammit! These dark, wintery days are too depressing, I need some sunshine and I'm ready to break out my flip flops. So here's a little flower power to inspire the month of March to bring on some fabulously warm days and sunny weather!
